This active volcano has erupted 40 times since 1828 and stands at an elevation of 2,708 meters (8,885 feet). The park features two notable crater lakes.
The northern lake, Laguna Caliente, is situated at 2,300 meters in a crater that spans approximately 1.7 kilometers wide and 300 meters deep. It’s one of the world’s most acidic lakes and possibly the largest crater lake globally. In contrast, Lake Botos, found in an inactive crater that last erupted around 7500 BC, is cold and clear, surrounded by lush cloud forest within the park.
